So I feel like I never posted these pictures and if I did then I apologize for the re-post. I went into the city about a month ago for class and saw this amazing exhibit in Chelsea. I’ve never seen anything like this before. The exhibit was of these twin brothers, Ryan and Trevor Oakes, that made drawings with sharpie makers but in a unique way. The paper is concave and they have to wear this special contraption that they invented in-order to create all their drawings. We saw the artist inaction, which is the last picture. Totally worth checking out here

Gilbert and George Singing Sculpture
They were known for living life as if everything they did was a work of art, this came to be known as “living sculptures.” This performance piece is were Gilbert and George stand in their exhibit acting as sculptures singing the same song on repeat for hours. For this piece they painted their faces and hands in metallic paint and rotated at random. There are many videos of them if you want to check it out, it’s pretty awesome.

I’m crazy about Beili Liu’s Above, Below installation. Drip by drip, fresh water is poured onto the salt bricks below - causing them not only to melt, but also to grow crystals. It’s fantastic. It’s quite possibly perfect. That’s how much I love it.
The simplicity of the idea is key, but from it, my mind jumps a thousand places - birth, death, regrowth, creating something beautiful from the destruction of another thing. Salt is such a wonderful material, so universal and malleable. The water, and more importantly, chance shape and mould the bricks into a new form, something unseen and fresh.
